Extractions & Wisdom Teeth
Protecting Your Oral Health
Your teeth do more than smile, so keeping them healthy is important. Having strong teeth can help you eat the foods you love, talk to the people that you share your life with, and even go out into the world with confidence.
Certain dental problems, such as cracks or decay in a tooth, can cause pain or other dental issues. These conditions can lead to further oral health complications if not treated quickly or properly. Once this occurs, the ideal option may be to remove the tooth entirely.
Tooth extractions and wisdom tooth removal can also help protect your oral health by lowering the risk of overcrowding.
In certain cases, your dentist may recommend removal to help prepare for restorative dental care like dental bridges.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
While most of our adult teeth come in while we are still children, there are molars located at the back of the mouth that won't erupt until you are in your late teens or early twenties. These are referred to as wisdom teeth.
Sometimes, this last set of teeth can cause a variety of issues, such as overcrowding. They may also create problems with your oral hygiene. In these cases, your dentist may recommend removing them.
Repairing Excessive Damage
Your dentist will always aim to save your natural teeth whenever they can. However, there may be situations where the tooth is damaged or infected, and extraction is necessary to treat your condition and prevent complications to the surrounding teeth.
Anytime a tooth extraction is recommended, the dentist will take some time to discuss tooth replacement options, which may include dental bridges, dental crowns, and dentures.
